Root canal therapy
also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure performed to treat a damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the infected or damaged pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels) and cleaning and disinfecting the canals inside the tooth.
Once the canals are clean and disinfected, they are sealed with a filling or crown.
Root canal therapy is typically recommended when the pulp of a tooth becomes infected or inflamed due to decay, injury, or disease. If left untreated, an infected or inflamed pulp can cause severe pain, swelling, and even lead to an abscess (a pocket of pus) in the gum.
Root canal therapy is performed
to save the tooth and prevent the need for extraction. The procedure is usually done under local anesthesia, and patients can return to normal activities within a few days.
We understand that the thought of getting a root canal can be daunting for some patients. That’s why we work closely with you to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during the procedure. We also offer sedation options for patients who may be anxious about the procedure, and provide post-operative care to ensure your recovery is as smooth as possible.
At Citydoc Dental, you can trust that you will receive compassionate and expert care throughout the entire root canal therapy process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many patients report that the procedure is not as painful as they expected. In fact, most of the pain and discomfort associated with root canal therapy comes from the infection or inflammation of the pulp before the procedure, not during the procedure itself. Most patients are able to return to normal activities within a few days after the procedure.
The duration of a root canal therapy procedure can vary depending on the complexity of the case, but on average, it takes one hour per appointment to complete. Most root canal therapy procedures are completed in two to three appointments.
